About Kandyce Waltensperger

Kandyce Waltensperger I divide my time between my studios in south Texas and northern Mexico and never seem to run out of inspiration for new paintings.

I grew up among the rolling hills of south eastern Pennsylvania and later moved with my family to Michigan. There I eventually met my husband and in 1994 we moved, with our twin daughters, to Monterrey, Mexico. I immediately fell in love with the rich colors and traditions of the Mexican culture.

One focus of my paintings has been the unique flora and fauna found around the Sierra Madre mountains. The Spanish influenced architecture in the small towns has also been an inspiration. No matter the subject, I paint in my well known unique style, combining vibrant colors with puzzle like composition.

One of my ongoing series of paintings is titled “The Talavera Twins and their Fiesta Friends”. These unique Mexican dolls (muñecas) have a personal connection for me and my twin daughters’ childhood. With each colorful brush stroke, I show the individual personalities of these familiar, handcrafted dolls.

As an artist working primarily in watercolors and acrylics, I have traveled and studied in such diverse places as Ecuador, France, England and of course, Mexico. Each time returning to my studio with new subject matter.

I have exhibiting my work at various shows throughout Texas, Michigan, New York and Mexico. My work has been purchased for various private collections in the United States and internationally and I have also done various commissioned pieces.
